Japanese Reaction to Disaster

14 March 2011

One of my friends posted a link to this article on Facebook. It’s a very keen observation about Japanese culture and how different the reaction of the public has been in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami compared to the reaction in the US after similar disasters such as the New Orleans hurricane. I think it’s fascinating how incredibly different two cultures can react to similar events, and it says a lot about how deeply seated the psychological aspects of a cultural upbringing are. It’s a short article and worth the read!
