2010 Reading List: Update #3

How is it August already? I’ve just ticked off two more books on my 2010 Reading List (original post here) but with half of the year gone already, I’ll have to step it up to finish the list by December 31! Here’s what my updated list looks like:

  • 1 how-to book (photography?)
  • 3 short story collections (Great Short Works of Leo Tolstoy)
    • The theory of light and matter by Andrew Porter
  • 2 books on craft (Sage Cohen)
    • Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life by Anne Lamott
  • 1 historical novel (Bible?)
  • 2 books by authors I’ve never read
    • We Were the Mulvaneys by Joyce Carol Oates (read 3/4, didn’t hold my interest)
    • Rabbit, Run by John Updike
  • 2 books in a new discipline/field of interest (Eastern philos.)
  • 2 children’s books
  • 2 classics
  • 2 re-reads (Arundhati Roy’s The God of Small Things)
  • 2 books by international authors (Alaa Al Aswany’s The Yacoubian Building)
  • 1 book of great heft (something daunting) (Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged)
  • 12 books of poetry
    • Bluets by Maggie Nelson
    • School of the Arts by Mark Doty
    • Source by Mark Doty
    • Telling a Hawk from a Handsaw by Chris Wallace-Crabbe
    • Mystery, So Long by Stephen Dobyns
  • 3 literary journals (jubilat) (McSweeney’s)(Meanjin)
  • 1 literary journalism/creative nonfiction book
  • 1 book of travel writing
  • 1 humorous book
  • 12 issues of The Sun magazine
    • have read issues Jan-August (8 issues)
